Such a great place
We turned up on a busy and cold mountains winter night, we were happily greeted at the door by Anne. We were shown our table by the open fire with 40 or so other happy customers enjoying there meals. We had the antipasto tart and Aussie king prawns with caramelised apple and ginger infused rice. both were out of this world.

For mains we had the slow roasted rack of Cowra lamb infused with morrocan spice, served with roasted garlic and tumeric mash, green beans and a sweet chickpea, tomato and mint sauce. The lamb melted in the mouth. It was a perfect cross between classic lamb with mint sauce and a morrocan style dish. We also had the eye fillet medallions, served over roasted veg, topped with giant prawns, asparagus spears and a perfect chasseur sauce and watercrease to top it off. It also melted in the mouth, cooked perfectly, and it didn't continue cooking on the plate, the prawns were so fresh!

For dessert we had the chocolate pannacotta with citrus coulis and spiced cream, which was just what I was after-perfect! And she had the ginger brulee, with hazelnut biscotti and shaved almonds and dark chocolate, its hard to say which was best because it was so spot on!

We dine out 2-3 times weekly and most of the time go to chef hat winning places, if this place hasn't been reviewed yet, then Matthew Evens from SMH Good Food Guide needs to check this place out! It deserves atleast one chef hat! And there is service, great coffee and the great comfortable atmosphere to go with the great food.    [04 Jul 2005 05:43:48]

Recommended Dishes: The ones above made the best meal we have had in years, yet I spoke to a lot of people that night, and from that I can see that the menu is spot on-faultless!

What a place
I go here a lot lately, because its hard to beat for a relaxed breakfast or lunch and outstanding dinner. The evening menu is great! Kangaroo, aged eye fillet, local lamb, fresh aussie king prawns, venison, Salmon, Northern territory barramundi and so much more. This place is by far the best in the Mountains and I eat out all the time!    [06 Jul 2005 23:38:35]

I use to go to volcans, silk's and darley's
But not any more. This place is the ultimate cafe by day with all day breakfast, organic lunches and dinner is just simply outstanding.
I can't wait for the new menu to start shortly! I'm told that it will be the best yet!    [05 Sep 2005 05:35:16]

Recommended Dishes: The all day breakfast, chili chickpea patties with lemon mayo and grilled halloumi cheese with pida bread and chilli mint dressing. the night menu is outstanding but as its about to change I'll simply say it will be good with Dave Smith as chef.

Recommended Dishes: For dinner, the pruchuitto with capsicum, goats cheese and olive tapenade is beautiful for the eye and taste buds for entree, the slow roated lamb shank with fig stuffed potatoes, spring greens and cinnimon jus for main melts in the mouth, and the vanilla sponge layered with strawberry mousse and coulis for dessert was outstanding!

I really love this place
Great food, location and value! The sushi and squid were enjoyed by me and my husband for entree one Friday night just gone by. The salmon and eye fillet steak were great mains, the poached tomatoes with choc cherry ice cream and pannacotta with wine jus were perfect desserts.

The building is an old 'mountains feel' cottage, with courtyard and fire place. They are not licenced, I was told in the middle of last year that they would be very soon, but still waiting seven months later.

The only let down is the service. You have to pour your own wine, small paper napkins, you ain't seated right, waiters have little knowledge for the menu (day-time they are good, but they don't improve with the food and prices at night!). Slow to clear tables. At one stage there was three tables outside and know one but use inside, and the three waitstaff didn't clear the five tables inside of there plates till 45 after the last of the five had left. They should have been cleared before the bill went out.

But over all I'll be back, the service maybe slack when your pay $33.00 for a main, but the food and atmosphere makes up for it.    [16 Jan 2006 04:01:53]
