Very expensive Very expensive. My partner had the prawn and oyster plate which for $45 wasn't much (especially for a main)- 3 natural oysters, a handful of prawns and a bit of salad. My king prawn salad which is on the entree menu was quite nice. There were no bottles of white wine under $30 which also added to the price. Overall it was very disappointing. We won't be going back and will be recommending to our friends that they shouldn't either. [05 Jan 2003 20:39:11]

You get what you pay for. Highly recommend the Seafood platter for two- $140 - but beware, if you have some of their delicious bread with it it will server 3 people easily! And the quality of the food and the presentation was fantastic. It comes out to your table in a huge boat. It is the kind of restaurant you would save for a special occasion - and you won't be dissapointed. [16 Feb 2003 16:56:32]

World Class Seafood, Service and Atmosphere Have eaten there several times and have always enjoyed the atmosphere, food & service. The food has always been superb. The place has a lovely relaxed atmosphere about it and the service is very good. Staff sre friendly and efficient and do everything to make guests feel relaxed. The view over Throsby Creek, the fishing fleet and the surrounding maritime activities is great whether during the day or at night. Thoroughly recommended. [25 Feb 2003 16:04:32]

Mangrove Jacks is exactly what Newcastle needed, the food is wonderful and the presentation is second to none. If you like seafood this is the place. Sunday lunch is a real treat with a jazz band and complimentary oysters not to mention the glass of wine. Its sensational, we will be going back [14 Jun 2003 02:16:08]

15 People there they cant all be wrong ! Invited the employees out to dinner Thursday 12/03 2004. All complained about the poor food, it wasnt fresh, it had no special quality. When you pay good money you expect good food and this simply wasnt very good. [12 Mar 2004 05:08:48]

Good Friday (not so good)!!! Well, after hearing Mangrove Jacks reviews for food and service, we decided to try it out, and as a chef/manager/business owner my partner and I went with open minds and purse. And upon ordering, after 20 mins of deliberation and difficulty in finding an appealing dish we ordered!!! Sorry to say you dont get what you pay for and you dont get the service either, spending in excess of $34.00 for wine we had to pour ourselves. The food tasty as it was, i would like them to justify paying $17.50 for 3 fish cakes the size of milk bottle lids and the list goes on and on.It would seem if you are mates with the matre d you would probably get the service you would expect after spending $200.00 for 2 entrees, 2 mains, 1 btl wine WE WONT BE BACK!!!
