Dissapointing and Overpriced Corner 75, located in Randwick, is a Hungarian restaurant that unfortunately gave our party a lesson in communist era oppressive dinning. Two of our group had phoned the place before arriving to ask if they catered for Vegetarians, to which the owner said Yes. When we arrived our group of 11 was squashed onto 2 tables. Seating was cramped, uncomfortable. Once seated, it transpired that there was just a single solitary non-meat main. Starters consisted of those crumbed mushrooms you can buy at KFC or Burger king in an equally low brow sauce, a sloppy pancake surrounding some bland form of meat and a sausage that had been cut something like a pineapple, to try and disguise it as something other than an overpriced barbeque left over. When queried about the lack of Vegetarian options the owner/cook proceed to argue with our guests in the restaurant, rather than offer to help, which unfortunately set a bad the tone for the evening. The mains were worse. Overpriced and badly cooked goulash. Gnocchi that looked like it was prepared in a hurry, the bowl served with strained water remaining at the bottom. The only positive comments were for the duck, and that was for the sauce. Mains cost from 17 to 25 dollars and the generally overpriced in the extreme. The room itself, apart from being overcrowded was decorated in some token photos of Budapest and several large ugly 1970s mirrors. Our advice is to steer clear of this place and try one of Sydney’s many other European Restaurants where the food is far better and the staff and owners are friendlier. [02 Mar 2004 17:46:37]
