What a lousy set up My wife and I are invited to a fixed menu function there this weekend (16 Feb '03).
We called ahead a couple of days ago to ask if they could ensure our meals were safe for my wife who is allergic (anaphylactic) to peanuts. "Sure, no problem, but I'll check with the chef"
Well today we hear from our friends who organised the function that the restaurant are refusing to serve us. But "they can bring their own food". Well great, but I can eat a sandwich at home.
What rubbish. [12 Feb 2003 20:28:27]

Non-Intimate Valentine's Day I dined at Amo Roma on Saturday Night (Valentine's Day). My booking for a table for 2 at 8pm was ackowledged by return email. This was booked on Wednesday 4th February.
Upon arrival at Amo Roma at 8pm, the host handling the table seating could not find my reservation. We were assured this would be Ok as a table was being vacated shortly and we were asked if we could wait at the bar. Seeing no problem with this we were half way up the stairs to the bar when the Host called out that our table was ready. We were then led out to the seating area just inside the main entrance, and seated at a table with no more than a 20cm gap between the table on either side. We could quite plainly hear the conversations of the couples on both sides of us, and they would have heard ours. The waiter when bringing out our food orders had to lean over myself to place my partners plate in its position, and my partner had to excuse her way past the next couple when arriving and leaving her seat. Considering the layout of the seating towards the rear of the ground floor (which i would have expected for an occasion like Valentines Day) which appeared quite nice, out the front we were subjected to seating more akin to a shopping centre food court, and had people hovering inside the front door waiting for a table, watching us dine. This was not the intimate dining experience I was after and would have expected from a fine restaurant, especially with the price I was charged and the advanced time of my booking. If I wanted food court atmosphere I could have had it for a much cheaper price.
I have been to this restaurant once before and experienced a pleasant evening, which was the reason I booked this restaurant for this special occasion. Now, after Saturday's experience, I would only very reluctantly attend this restaurant and would advise my Family and Friends to do likewise. [16 Feb 2004 00:09:15]
