New Owners make their food SING! 05/08/05
Magnetic Island celebrities Bernadette Smith & Phill Stephens have been wowing North Queenslanders, local Island residents & visitors alike for years with their professional & hilarious “Comedy Cabaret” shows! Now they have opened their own Italian restaurant!

Alla Capri Stage Door Ristorante Italiano at 5-7 Hayles Ave, Arcadia. Magnetic Island, has it all. Their superb Pizzas start with a base that is thin & crisp, hand stretched & topped with such wonderful combinations as:
· the Classic Italian: Pepperoni, Prosciutto Artichokes, Mushrooms, Black Olives, Mozzarella and Napoli (tomato) sauce.
· the Bianca al Prosciutto: Bocconcini, Parmesan, Prosciutto and Arugula (Rocket).
· the Vegetarians delight: Grilled vegetables (Capsicum, Zucchini, Eggplant, Mushrooms), Marinated Artichoke, Smoked Mozzarella, Chopped Cherry Tomatoes and Roasted Garlic.

There are fifteen toppings to choose from, each one better than the last & all are available for takeaway or dine-in.

As well as this, they offer a fixed price menu for $20 per person where you choose either an Entrée & Main course or a Main course & Dessert. The entrée selection is magnificent as you help yourself to their extensive Anti Pasto table of grilled & marinated vegetables, cured meats & terrines, marinated octopus, cheeses, crusty breads & dips.
The main course I chose was the classic Scaloppine al Marsala: Scallops of tender Veal, pan fried to perfection & served with a Spectacular Marsala Cream Sauce & my friend had the flavour filled Italian Sausages with an Onion, Tomato & Fresh Basil sauce served with a creamy Kumara Mash (orange sweet potato with a hint of fennel).

What happened after our main course was just astounding! The waiters (Bernadette & Phill) slipped off their aprons, donned matching sequins, popped up onto their own built-in STAGE & proceeded to delight the entire restaurant with ballads of Jazz, Swing & Musical comedy. They even took requests!

Now, lets not forget the desserts (which are to die for). A selection of silky smooth Gelato, mixed Berries topped with a chilled Zabaglione (which I had) & Dark and White Chocolate Mousse with Brandied Cumquats. (Hmmm, I just had to have a taste of that too!)

What a find. All this, a fully licensed bar, very reasonable prices, superb food, live entertainment & this was just mid week.

The owners told me that they do a full scale Cabaret Dinner Show once a month on a Friday & Saturday which costs $40 per person plus your bar bill.
It is too good to be true & I can’t wait to get back to Alla Capri on Magnetic Island next time I am in North Queensland    [11 Aug 2005 21:10:50]
