Let me tell you a little horror story ...
It started with the water glasses. I poured my water and it became a little cloudy. Bravely, I took a sip anyway. Mmm... milky with a hint of coffee. So, I'd ended up with someone's barely-washed latte glass. Lovely.

Next, the waiter was impossible to catch, though he walked right past us five or six times. We almost had to resort to physically grabbing him and when we did he was completely unapologetic about the water glasses and returned with another pair no cleaner than the last. (I decided I'd had enough bravery at this point and went thirsty). When he came to take our order he, no joke, proceeded to pick clean his nails right in front of us while we made our order!

The food was worse than mediocre. The egg in my Caesar salad was stone cold and rubbery, as though it had been cooked hours previously and refrigerated in anticipation of an order. My dining partner's canelloni could only be described as 'average'.

The special dessert 'Parfait' turned out to actually be ice-cream, which was admittedly quite tasty, but which came accompanied by obviously unwashed, and I mean filthy, strawberries.

My dining partner's report of the men's toilets was horrific, as they seem to double as a broom cupboard with two half open bottles of metholated spirits sitting out in the open. I was not brave enough to visit the ladies' ... not needing to anyway because I hadn't drunk a thing, if you recall.

Active encouragement of smokers with ash-trays on the outside patio tables did nothing to improve the atmosphere.

My previous pleasant visits to this restaurant have been utterly overwritten in my memory by this experience, and neither I nor my dining partner will ever darken their door again.    [14 Apr 2005 19:08:42]

Romantic yet cheap
Beautiful views of Flinders St Station and Princess Bridge. A perfect pre-theatre or ballet randezvouz. The food is yummy and there are many classic favourites on the menu. My friends and I go there often!    [23 Jun 2005 18:27:54]
