They try. You will have a hard time finding a truly bad restaurant in Belgium - if you've been to this country, you'll know that.
This being said, there are an awful lot of "OK" places to eat in this country, and as long as you don't pay too much that's fine.
De Nethe thinks itself the bee's knees but frankly, I would disagree. It's all a little bit bland and although they try to impress the locals with lobster menus a few time a year, they haven't impressed me so far.
What I remember best from this place is not the food, but that fact that they used to have a waiter who looked like he came straight out of a sketch, the type that takes a drink from a hip flask behind the door, each time he goes into the kitchen. Around Xmas you might think of a reindeer called Rudolph, if you get my drift. [22 Jul 2003 17:00:20]
