Although I haven't personally visited, when asking the locals about where to have the best meals, Chez Bamboo was invariably mentioned as one of the top three on the island. Ratings based on their concensus. [02 Jun 2001 13:05:02]

New Year's Eve @ Chez Bamboo Excellent Dinner! A group of seven of us, children included, spent our New Year's Eve for 2003 at Chez Bamboo. The service was warm, friendly and skillful. The food was excellent. All of the entree selections very well executed. The choices, while limited for New Year's Eve were varied to cover all tastes. Great rustic island ambience.
We had eaten at the Pavillion at Little Dix Bay two evenings before. Chez Bamboo exceed the quality, innovation and service of the meal at Little Dix. [19 Jan 2003 10:54:49]

Jan 2003 We went with high expectations but were severely disappointed. Expensive tab for what was rather uninspired food. The descriptions on the menu seemed delicious but the food consistently fell short of those words. The appetizers were okay and the creme brulee there was actually the second best we have ever had, but those were the only highlights. The snapper in parchment was so freezer burnt and dry that I could only eat a third of it. We don't even remember what my husband had it was so boring. The upside down pineapple mango cake tasted like something you'd get from the supermarket. I guess some people think that if they pay a lot of money for something it must be good, but we felt that the $120 we shelled out that night could have been better spent elsewhere. We went to this restaurant on our second day on V.G. It scared us away from trying anything else at the even more pricey resort restaurants. Whether or not that was an overreaction, we don't know. I don't mind paying extra $ for food if it is truly good food. This was just not worth it. [02 Feb 2003 00:36:51]

Extremely Disappointed My wife and I had dinner at this restaurant I could not resist the urge to let others know about our bad experience here. I have traveled all over the Caribbean and have eaten at a wide variety of restaurants in this region. Simply put, I am still in shock from the food we were served at this establishment.
To start with we each ordered a banana daiquiri. Upon receiving them it was nothing more than watery ice and banana flavored syrup. They tasted much like a crushed slurpie you would get from a 7-11. Thinking back I wish we would have left at this point. From the menu my wife and I both ordered the "Nassau Grouper w/shrimp and crab". The fish was to be served with rice and vegetables.
Over an hour later when the meal arrived (please note that there were only 2 other couples dining in the restaurant) what we received was shocking and just plain disappointing. The fish along with the shrimp were both frozen and the crab was actually imitation crab meat. We were literally 30 feet from the water and being served cheap frozen fish and imitation crab meat drowning in margarine. Even the vegetables were bagged frozen vegetables, not fresh. It simply blows my mind that this place can get away with serving food like this and still remain in business.
We have been to Virgin Gorda 2 other times and have have always enjoyed great food and service from the restaurants here. This is a meal you would expect to receive somewhere at a cheap diner for $20, not on a Caribbean island paying $100. Extremely disappointing. [16 Jun 2007 23:15:32]
