have i told you about the coffee at lazy loaf?
i no longer live in calgary but i still hold fond memories of the gastronomic delights served up by the lazy loaf located in parkdale. we often took a short jaunt down the hill from foothills hospital for lunch. simple stuff - sandwiches, coffee, cookies, muffins, etc. but as a well-worn kellogg's slogan taught us - the simple things in life are often the best. the genius here really lies in the simplicity of the food. you fill out a form outlining what you want in your sandwich (fillings, condiments, type of bread, toasted or not, soup?, salad?, etc.) take it to the counter and order away. grabing a table during the lunchtime rush is a bit of a challenge but its worth the wait IMHO (or you can have it to go). then the enormous sandwiches come out, cut neatly and adorned with a frilly toothpick on each half. you also get pickles as accompaniment. have (regular - not the boutique flavoured kind) coffee here too b/c it really is divine. you may also find yourself tempted by the desserts display at the counter - if so may i recommend you try their "health" cookies [i use quotations b/c this cookie is way too tasty to seem healthy in the least - healthy for the soul perhaps?] b/c they are incredibly yummy: a simple cookie base peppered with an assortments or nuts and seeds to give it added dimension and texture...oh, and the riverside locale is the icing on the cake to this place's appeal.    [26 Mar 2006 20:16:03]
