Disgusting Entering the restaurant, it looked like a run-down, disgusting diner that was straight-out-of the '50s. The tables were held together with duct tape and the wall beside us was peeling.
The server greeted us, he was absolutely fantastic the whole night and appreciated our business, but even ignoring how great the service was the overall experience was dreadful and I will not be returning.
First, my guest and I both ordered the eggs Benedict because Smitty's is known for its breakfast menu. We also each ordered a simple appetizer. [Mozzarella sticks and dry garlic ribs.] We then received the news that they could not complete the order because they were out of stock of the hollandaise sauce. We then both changed our orders.
I ordered a cheeseburger, plain, [emphasizing just meat and cheese, and I saw the server write it down] with poutine instead of fries. Not exactly a hard or complex order.
My guest ordered a turkey club with fries and gravy on the side.
When the food arrived we began eating our meals and we were both extremely unhappy with them. We're both pretty relaxed people and would have felt bad complaining to the server, but the food was disgusting.
My plain cheeseburger came with the bun drenched in thousand island dressing, my gravy was as cold as ice and the cheese was just sitting on top of the also, cold fries. I was unable to eat the hamburger, the meat was disgusting, the bun was dry and the thousand island dressing was NOT what I ordered, I was also only able to eat some of my poutine, the gravy tasted like it came from a grocery store in a bulk bucket for $5.
My guest's club sandwich tasted fine, although that's pretty much impossible to screw up, but her fries were also inedibly bad.
The restaurant was also EXTREMELY cold inside. I was shivering the whole time we were eating, and it didn't help that the food was cold.
The only thing that tasted good during my experience was the iced tea.
The worst part? THE BILL WAS $50!
$50!
I could've gone to Boston Pizza or Huckleberry's, had equally good service, a great ambiance, fantastic food that was actually prepared correctly...
I am extremely disappointed. I feel like I was mugged out of $50. [03 Aug 2009 23:22:25]
