Great Small-Town Cafe! We were recommended to stop at the Our Place Cafe in Beaverdell when we stopped over in the town for the night on our cycling trip of the Kettle Valley Railway. What a great recommendation!
Although the restaurant is quite small, the staff there gave us a whole back dining room (there were 12 of us) so we could all be together at once. The cafe, although rustic, has some fascinating pictures and writeups of the history of the town (Beaverdell is a very historic town) and the atmosphere of the cafe was very pleasant. The cafe prides itself on its 'home-style' cooking and indeed it is; even the fries are made there!
The food was excellent - some of us stuck with good ol' burgers and fries while others went for pork chops with the works - and we all agreed that it was great. The homemade pies were awesome, just like grandma used to make them ;) . The meals were top-rate, but to make the experience even better was our server, Mitch. He paid attention to every detail and remembered our every request, in addition to being exceptionally warm and friendly. He made some nice touches to our meal, such as bringing us chilled water glasses and keeping the water jugs filled, and even brought us some candles to make the table cozier. He was also a very good looking young man, which pleased the younger ladies in our group. ;)
Overall, the Our Place Cafe was probably the best place we dined at during our trip (some of us were cycling from Midway to Penticton, while others had started from as far away as Castlegar). The meals were top-notch, and reasonably priced, and the entire staff was very helpful and friendly, with the service being exceptional. For a small town cafe, this is definitely the best I personally have experienced, and it made our trip all the more enjoyable. Thanks a lot! [23 Sep 2002 20:54:40]
