Great but Sad!!! Nice atmosphere, what a great addition to Kamloops was my first reaction. White collared served with crisp white aprons, was just a fabulous first impression.
Waiter came on the table side, and the blunders of a new restaurant started, 90% of the menu unavailable, with a whole new menu (kind of) in restaurants daily special, which the waiter had no clue what it was or meant. I liked the food which was brought on the table, but service knowledge which they tried to bring forward was 3rd class. I guess teach the servers white table service, including changing of the table cloths in front of customers, as they tried to do it in front of me and my guest and was a good laugh.
I came to such a place for good service and food and was disappointed with the service which took the mood into food. Sorry guys if you want to open a high end place, do it right. [23 Nov 2004 23:46:56]

They must have worked the bugs out We ate at Brownstone this week (late January, 2005) and the food was outstanding, the service professional, and the ambience warm and intimate for a birthday dinner. We were served by the owner, Connie Decaire, who was well-informed about both food and wine. Her husband, Dale, trained under Bruno Marti of La Belle Auberge in Ladner and Marti's influence was strongly felt in all aspects of the operation from the heritage setting to the very skillfully prepared dished featuring international influences on the freshest of local and other Canadian ingredients. Oasis in the Desert! Our fourth day traveling and no good food! Then we found Brownstone and we were saved! The food is first class and very nice waitstaff. Chef knows what he is doing! [15 Sep 2005 01:15:46]

Finally a 1st class restaurant for special occasions Went for dinner with good friends and we were all very impressed with the service, menu selection & ambiance. Liked it so much we returned for New Years Eve with our family. We all thought it was a very elegant way to spend New Years Eve and the Brownstone lived up to our expectations once again. We'll return definitely! [15 Jan 2006 15:30:15]

A fabulous dining experience! Found myself in Kamloops (for the first time) for a business trip and after a bland lunch meal at Player's Chophouse, I was looking for something more fitting of my "foodie" palate :-) Wandered to the far end of Victoria Street and noticed a beautiful heritage bank buildling that had been turned into an attractive restaurant. After a pleasant converstaion with the hostess, who introduced me to Chef Dale Decaire when I had some questions about the menu, I thought that dinner that evening would be worth trying.
I am happy to say that the entire dining experience was fabulous! The service was attentive, friendly and helpful...I especially appreciated the feedback on the wine list. When I was stuck between two wines, I was offered a small sample of both so that I could make the decision.
I went with 4 of the small plates to start...of particular note was the Duck thigh with a wonderful wild blueberry demi-glace and a seared scallop with a lemon/mint risoto....mmmmm good and cooked to perfection!
On the server's recommendation I went with the Arctic Char main course with a generous REAL crab, crab cake with sweet roasted corn, multiple roasted veggies and zesty roasted red pepper roule. Presentation was beautiful and once again, I was impressed with the preparation of the seafood items...the Arctic Char was cooked perfectly...seared crispy on the outside and fleshy slightly pink in the centre!
What I especially appreciated was having Chef Decaire come out from the kitchen to ask about how I had enjoyed the meal. He took my feedback thoughtfully, and sat down to converse with me over a glass of port.
I would have tried the dessert menu, but quite frankly, the portions were quite generous and I was too full :-( The table across from me seemed to enjoy what looked to be a chocolate pate...
Overall, this was one of my most memorable and enjoyable dining experiences. I highly recommend the Brownstone Restaurant! [11 May 2006 01:03:03]
