Overall very disappointing experience
I have lived in Kelowna all my life and in that time have visited the majority of restaurants in our area. This is the first time I have ever submitted a restaurant review and I felt compelled to after my experience, because I was so disappointed.

We had made reservations for a group for 8:30 pm on a Saturday night and upon arrival at the restaurant, were completely ignored by staff (even though the restaurant was half-empty)for 10 minutes while our group waited by the front desk to be seated. We were not asked by anyone during that time if we had been taken care of. There was not even a server available to flag down.

Upon being seated, it was another waiting game to order drinks, to order food, waiting for drinks, etc. The waitress seemed like she did not want to take our order. There were still 2 people from our party that had not arrived and though we told her we were ready to order right away without them (as they wouldn't be eating dinner, just having drinks) she said she'd "come back and give us a few more minutes" instead. We didn't see her for a while.

Once we were finally able to order and after the food had arrived, I was disappointed in my dish. I had ordered the daily fish special, which that day was a grilled mahi mahi with a special flavoured hollandaise, rice and vegetables. I had specifically asked the waitress for extra sauce when I ordered and saw her make a note of it. When I received my order, I saw that instead of extra sauce it looked like I had less than I was supposed to have in the first place. Though the portion size of the fish was very good, the sauce was very bland. For $20 a plate, the quality of food on my plate compared to other $9 plates was not comparable. I have no problem paying $20 (knowing comparative market values for fish) for a dish, however, only if the FLAVOUR is there. The sauce for the fish (and the rest of the dish itself) was bland. For that much money I would have expected them to use a few extra pennies and actually add spice/herb/seasoning to the hollandaise which even as hollandaises go was bland.

My sister also ordered both chicken and prawns with her dish, and did not receive any prawns with it when the food arrived.

Overall, there was not one person out of 10 total in our group that said they really liked their dishes.

I had one friend in our group arrive to the restaurant after we'd ordered, actually went to find the waitress (when she hadn't been back to our table in a while) so that he could get a menu. He asked the bartender if he could get a menu from him and order when the waitress came back. He was told by the bartender that "maybe" the waitress would come back to take his dinner order. What kind of employee says "MAYBE" we'll take your order???

Though the setting of the restaurant by the lake is beautiful and the place is very nicely decorated in a southwest theme, it's ambience in the eating area does not make up for the bathrooms, which for the over 2 hours we were there were filthy, actually worse than rest stops or gas stations I've been to.

For a Saturday night in a heavy tourist town like Kelowna, in a prominent, popular building (the Grand Hotel), I would have expected there to be enough staff to properly service the customers and maintain overall cleanliness, especially after the dinner rush was already over. The majority of my group was surprised at the overall experience and said they'd never go to the restaurant again.

I'm all about giving second chances, but this one will come from me only if I ever find out that the restaurant is under new management.    [25 Jul 2005 14:19:48]

Possibly The Worst.
The place is nice enough. they have a nice view and decor but the waitresses (some who are dressed like truckers in tank tops and shorts) and the food, in short, sucked. After looking at their tiny menu (choices are appies or stir fry basically) I ordered a layered dip; beans, cheese, salsa, sour cream, olives and some other stuff with chips. Did i mention it was cold? Freezing grated cheese mmmm. My friend had lettuce wraps and they were lacking muchly as well. We ate about 1/4 of our food then left with 25$ less in our pockets. The server came to us for our order and for the bill and that was about all. You'd think with a restaurant in such a nice area and the potential to be good, would be. But it's really really not. one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had.    [11 Aug 2005 01:25:34]

AWESOME EXPERIENCE
I heard this place used to be bad... but have been there this year 2006 - several times and found it to be awesome. Great food... nice servers efficient. Million dollar view!! There are not a lot of restaurants on the water in Kelowna... this one is definitely worth visiting. Don't almost all restaurants have good and bad reviews... I give this one a thumbs up. And so do a lot of other people as it is busy the 3 or 4 times I have gone.

I'll return for sure. Try it for yourself.    [02 Sep 2006 16:53:53]
