Description
The Summerhill Pyramid Winery has operated its "Sunset Veranda" for a number of years now. Starting in early 2004, the restaurant facility is being operated by the Forster's catering company of Vancouver.
Seating is available both inside and out, with a commanding view of Okanagan lake, south of Kelowna. The restaurant is located next to the wineshop, inside the winery building.
The wine list is comprised of only Summerhill's wines.

Not the Summerhill Style It was with some anticipation that I sat down for dinner at Summerhill's bistro recently -- I hadn't eaten here in a year or so, not since the restaurant's management had been taken over by the new caterer.
The setting is spectacular, as ever; probably one of the most scenic spots in Kelowna. You can't beat the panoramic views and the vineyard setting. Summerhill's wines are of high quality, and the wineshop and tour are to be recommended, whether you go for the new agey pyramid story or not.
While the atmosphere of the bistro hasn't changed much, you can definitely tell a difference in the menu. The lighter, more experimental and artistic approach of Summerhill's own kitchen of the past years appears mostly transformed into a safe and middle of the road approach (for west coast style cuisines, that is). I figured that I would order something standard, then, and went for the rib-eye steak with a Madagascar peppercorn sauce. While the dish wasn't completely flawed, it was hard to recognize with only three peppercorns (I counted 'em), and no sauce on top. There was a brown sauce on the side, with little to no peppercorn character. Accompaniments included spaghetti squash and tasty smashed potatoes, but it was disappointing to find the same thing on all of the mains plates at our table. On the plus side, the taste I had of my friend's jerked pork tenderloin was delicious.
Both the starter salad of mixed greens with a fruit-accented vinaigrette and the dessert were decent, with my only quibble being that the salad was wilted, and had obviously been sitting plated for a while.
The Sunset Bistro is still to be recommended for a bunch of reasons, just with the food being lower down on the list, in my opinion. [06 Jul 2004 15:01:09]

Very disappointing What can I say? Why is a world famous winery letting a third rate restaurant group run its restaurant. Bad service, bad food. I am told their chef was let go in the spring. It's very apparent. This forster's company might do better in the garbage business. Hopefully the winery will make some changes soon. [05 Sep 2004 18:56:34]
