The Best Sushi on the Island I am surprised there are no other reviews about this restaurant. Everyone always speaks of it highly (with the exception of the fact that you cannot go for lunch and be out within an hour because it is too busy). However for an evening out it quieter and worth venturing downtown. There is nowhere I know of that has superior sushi. [13 Jan 2008 19:48:54]

down hill... What has happened? All I can say is that Acme has gone down hill since I moved to Nanaimo. It was the place to go a few years back, but boy have things changed. Had heard terrible things but wanted to give it another try. Went in with my boyfriend and we got sat right away so I believed the night would be good. I was sure wrong. Crappy service (the bartender had to take us because our server was too busy, but it was obvious the bartender was too busy as well, and it wasn't even busy in the restaurant!). So we ordered drinks which came in warm glasses and an appy which was plain and had no flavour and we left. Such a disappointment. But we had only heard bad things so I guess we new what we were getting into. Wont be back. [19 Feb 2008 11:48:05]

Great place to meet with friends We love going to Acme, not only for business meetings during the day but my wife and I go in the evenings to meet up with friends. My wife's favorite is their new pasta dishes and of course the sushi is out of this world. As for me, I love a good steak! The service is sometimes not the best but the food and drinks are great! We love it because it's central and a fun place. [01 Mar 2008 15:31:01]

Reliable for food and atmosphere - no longer I've eaten at Acme enough times over the last 3 years to have noticed a remarkable downward spiral in the quality of the food served (as well as the wait staff appearing stressed). I can't begin to list the number of times either myself or my company have said "this isn't as good as it used to be", or "I think I should have ordered something else". The pizza crust tastes worse than anything I've ever eaten from the supermarket freezer. I think that the sushi chefs are the only ones who have their act together. It's too bad because this used to be the only place I would think to go to downtown. Thankfully, other places are opening up that seem to taste their food before selling it! My poor rating is really based on the food. [18 Sep 2008 17:25:36]

Best Ribs Ever A whole group of us went to Acme for a birthday dinner and ordered the Ribs, they were the best I have ever had! The bartender was making us awesome martini's, one was decorated with chocolate drizzle inside and then a cream martini. Heaven!!! We were pleasantly surprised at $5.00 martini's Friday and Saturday nights. We had lots of fun, good food and good service. Would highly recommend this place, it was packed when we went. Atmosphere and Good Deals Aren't Enough My wife and I went to Acme for the first time on one of its "Thrifty Fridays". Glad we got our meal (excluding beverages) for half price as this was really its only saving grace. Service was slow and twice we were presented with food that we didn't order; for some reason the wait staff and kitchen don't seem to be communicating on who ordered what.
The ribs that we ordered as an appy were tasty enough but not very warm (Did our order get forgotten?) and most of the sushi dishes were just too "busy". There seemed to be too many flavours competing for my pallet's attention. Sometimes less is more!
I'd be willing to give it another try just to see if the service is any more consistent and to try something a little harder to mess up, as suggested above. If that doesn't pan out, I doubt I'd be back. [29 Jun 2009 18:52:47]
