If in Nanaimo, Visit the Blue Ginger It's kind of a Japanese, Thai, Indonesian, Indian and Chinese restaurant rolled up into one. Their sushi is great and well everthing else I had was great too. They even have a great piano player some nights. From the outside it looks like nothing special and it's a little out of the way at the back of a strip mall but it is great! Better than any Asian restaurant in Victoria, I guarantee you. [08 Jul 2004 16:45:44]

Best Sushi Ever Food was great and the service was outstanding and helpful with descriptions of all the dishes; we had a great time. Overall the best sushi on the island. [28 Nov 2004 16:47:45]

Blue GInger Is Absolutely the Best The Blue Ginger Asian restaurant in Nanaimo is the best sushi bar and satay grill on Vancouver Island. Residents of Port Alberni have access to Larry Lim's gourmet delights as well, at his Blue Ginger location in the Quality Foods store on Tenth Avenue. [07 Mar 2005 07:34:59]

Good Food, Garbage Service The food here is exceptional. Well thought out. Took a little long to get but the quality of food was well worth it. Service was ridiculous; slow is a nice way of describing it. The staff was more intrested in chatting about their new purse rather than the guests. The atmosphere was a bit dated and poorly kept. Attention to details were sorely needed. [05 Apr 2005 21:57:01]

Blah Food at Questionable Prices The food was so-so and the prices were completely out of line. There are much better places with better ambience than this. I will not be returning. [19 Jul 2005 18:33:35]

Best Asian restaurant. Food is innovative and delicious. Beautiful atmosphere, friendly service. Unbelievable that it is family owned and operated. Definately a highlight of Nanaimo. Looks like a new lounge is coming soon too...sounds exciting! Check it out. [10 Sep 2005 14:49:13]

Poor Service The food here is delicious, but overpriced. A couple of years ago while dining here I found a piece of glass in my rice, and all the manager did was take 10% off the bill! [11 Jan 2006 21:22:24]

Needs a Complete Overhaul Everything needs to be done better. If you are an average person without the knowledge of what real sushi is then go to Blue Ginger. If you are in the know, don't go. You would be better off trying to make it yourself at home. To the staff: clean the vents once in awhile; it was disgusting to look at. Try sitting at a table and just look around; you will notice a lot of things. [01 Feb 2006 14:26:45]

Not worth the drive! I am from the Campbell River area and have been craving some sushi. I found the Blue Ginger Restaurant ad in the phone book. I thought I would check it out with my wife. To my surprise, I was extremely disappointed with the quality of the sushi. My waitress was quite rude to me and the food took forever to get to the table. My rice was soggy and the glass of red wine I ordered was spoiled. Over all, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting a 'decent' sushi experience. [24 Mar 2006 16:30:59]
