Wonderful Pub - Great Food, New Owners
The new owners of the Rocking Horse are wonderful hosts and have done an excellent remodelling job. A new river rock fireplace graces the pub portion of this quaint pub and the new chairs and tables are of the highest quality. Overall, the pub is one of the nicer ones located in the central Vancouver Island area. A long elegant bar greets you as you step inside and the bar also provides off sales of a wide selection of wines and fine beers. The restaurant is located in a separate dining area to the left and the pub area can be found to the right. Gracefully decorated, the dining room offers an extensive menu that holds no disappointments. British type meals dot the menus for both the restaurant and the pub, but there is a wide array of choices for every palate. The entire place is neat as a pin and the restrooms are of high quality and attended to regularly. Located uniquely in the middle of a large acreage featuring large trees and open pastures, the Rocking Horse is one of a kind. In the spring, summer and fall, guests can dine outside on the deck and observe the free roaming fowl and other barnyard animals in a large pasture that is fenced off from guest services. On Thursday nights, there is a blues jam session that attracts as many as 9 talented musicians from the Nanoose Bay area. On these evenings, some of the tables in the pub are pulled back a bit to make room for a dance area.
Overall, this pub and restaurant receives a 95% rating from us with little left to be improved. We have extensive pub visiting experience from Victoria to Campbell River on the Island and Whistler to Abbottsford on the lower mainland. This pub rates high in our top 5 favorite places to quaff and ale or have a pleasant dining experience with a fine bottle of wine.    [13 Jan 2005 12:18:59]
