Excellent My wife and I were recently treated to tickets to the Southwind's Visiting Chef series. A good friend of mine, Dave McElvy, was one of the chefs and was the channel by which we received this much-needed night out. It was the night that the Great Blizzard of 2006 dumped over 10mm of snow (quite an accumulation in contrast to the last two winters here!) and sent temperatures plummeting into the negative teens. Our table was near the fireplace. The music was quiet and romantic, the lighting was soft, and it was a perfect setting for our dinner. My wife, a vegetarian, was surprisingly able to find at an Oliver eatery, menu items OTHER than fettucini alfredo. Spaghetti is about all you can get as a vegetarian in this neck of the woods. Not at the Southwind. My wife had an amazing vegetarian pear and gouda tart appetizer, followed by (I forgot). I had the beef tenderloin, which was so soft it melted into a savory pool in my mouth. All expertly prepared by my closest friend Dave, who obviously has been holding out on me. I want to highly recommend the Southwind restaurant if you want a classic high-end dining experience.
