Incredibly Poor Service! Just got back from having lunch at your pub. I don't get out much and will probably have trouble getting my husband out again for awhile because of our experience.
On Sun. Nov. 2, 2003, we stopped in for a bite to eat. Given his choice of pubs, my husband chose your place to stop at due to better food availability.
For over 10 minutes we waited to be just acknowledged and finally interuppted the waitress serving the next table to get menus (knowing we could then order beverages when they came). Once we asked for menus our drinks were fairly forthcoming. While waiting for our food after a reasonable amount of time, my husband used the washroom. Our food was under the heat lamp as he went in and on his return he commented to me that he hoped our server seen it in due time and brought it to us. Unfortunately, over 10 minutes expired between the time of his return and the bringing of our food. My ceasar salad was warm and whilted while his sandwich was kind of dried out and his soup lukewarm. We then order more beverages which were another long time in coming. A couple had sat next to us and were displaying those digusted faces that are seen with bad service. We suggested to them that they be aggressive, very aggressive in order to get service. After approximately another 5 - 10 minutes they chose to leave. I have never chosen to complain before, but feel that this should be brought to managements attention. The pub was far from full and I could see no reason other than poor work ethics for this to have happened. The server was observed by my husband to spend a certain amount of time on the phone. Her name you ask: Check #555624-1 Time: 12:34 (although it was probably 1:34) and we were served by Marnie A. It is hard enough to get my husband to go out once he is home much less on a Sunday afternoon but this type of service just made it harder for me. Thought you should know. Watch out chickens Hockey, friendly staff and an awesome selection of wings; heaven in this guy's eyes. Whether with a group or on your own the service is the same - timely, friendly and accurate. The Spicey Thai wings are exotic and those dry Cajun chicken arms unique and delicious. See you on Tuesday; even with the price hike to 25 cents a wing the quality value is worth it. Hockey venue should be shut out Went here to watch a hockey game the service was a joke very slow it wasn't very busy at all and the waitress was unattentive. Took forever to get my food and when it came the soup was lukewarm and the sandwich cold. When using the man's washroom I was shocked that a facility could be so poorly kept it was smelly and messy no hand towels were available. The giving away of dollar beers when the canucks scored was a joke the line up would be a certain length and they would cut it off at their discretion leaving many dissatisfied patrons. I find this to be an annoying tacky promo gimick so at least follow through with it. I can not beleive a business can be run so poorly. Needless to say I would not recommend this establishment. Great Pub I've been going to the Golden Spike for years and can say that I have had excellent service nearly every time. I am not known by the staff there, as I am not that regular, but I am always treated as if I were. [24 May 2004 23:41:34]

Golden Spike Pub Service is very slow and food has taken a turn for the worse. Staff is very polite compared to the management that they have to work under. The managers have absolutely no people skills. [10 Jun 2004 06:29:21]

Spike Pub Food has gone from bad to worse. Waitresses stand around talking and just don't care. Management sucks. Owners are worse. [02 Apr 2005 01:51:34]

What an improvement. Recently some friends and I went to a fundraiser at the Spike and were more than impressed. What an improvement over last year. It seems the old staff has been replaced by fresh faces and new attitudes. This visit didn't make us feel like an incovenience, but rather appreciated. Great job, Golden Spike, you've truly turned over a new leaf! [06 Jul 2006 17:14:12]

Needs to be revamped They have good food and drink specials and in general the service is good. If you're looking for a very laid back atmosphere (almost asleep) its a good place to go. However, its no place to party (bad set up). The pub needs an overhaul and during reconstruction should consider a wider demographic. [02 Aug 2006 19:37:49]

We love the Spike We are constantly returning to the spike for a meal. Be it lunch or dinner. We arrive to welcoming faces that consistently give us great service. The menu is always being updated and continues to provide us with numberous tasty choices. I always leave feeling that our bill was very inexpensive for such a fantastic overall dining experience.
