Stupidity I can't believe the new owner of this place wants to make it into a "restaurant"! [01 Apr 2003 21:26:49]

Still a Pub I like what the owner has done with the place; she kept it a pub, and made some changes to the menu.
Some people just can't seem to deal well with change. I have personally had the opportunity to meet the owner; she is a very nice person, and I believe she deserves a chance. She is trying to bring something new and exciting to this town, and I think we should all try it out before we judge her. She is just beginning to scratch the surface, she has many great plans for the Alpenhorn. I think she's doing a great job, and she should keep up the good work! She is very open to suggestions, but everyone is too much of a coward to give them to her, they would rather talk amongst themselves than bring them up with her. [23 Apr 2003 13:22:34]

Stalin Runs a Restaurant From my experience, I think [the owner] is a power tripper. Bragging in our local paper, and firing staff for being a little overweight.
I will never go back! [20 May 2003 11:45:00]

Empty Seats Speak Volumes Have you been in the Alpenhorn lately? That place was always packed under the previous owner, now it's almost always dead. Hmmmm ... I wonder why?
The food is expensive, the portions are small, and most of the dishes I could prepare better myself after a 6 pack! I went for wings last night and they tasted like leftovers from lunch. And for 35 cents a wing -- for shame!
I was once a regular, but now, along with most everyone I know, I would rather go to Rotten Ronnie's for a Happy Meal. If Heidi (owner) is the entrepreneur of the year as she envisions herself to be, then where are all the patrons? I'm sorry, but if it's not broken - why try to fix it? [05 Jun 2003 18:25:27]

Rumours, Rumours, Rumours Living in a small town, word travels fast. Unfortunately, this is how rumours get started. Under new ownership, the Alpenhorn is not as "hoppin" as it once was, and rumours, I believe, are the reason. People all too often believe what they hear rather than experiencing it for themselves.
Hm, lets see, I've heard that Heidi is turning it into a restaurant, that the Alpenhorn is a stuffy place where you have to eat, she only lets certain people in, oh, that she is taking out the liquor wall, the list goes on. All completely not true! Why or how these rumours got started I do not know. But I do know one thing - give it a chance, try it for yourself rather than believing everything you hear - you'll have a great time - guaranteed! [06 Jun 2003 03:19:40]

The food is not that great Well it takes a very long time to get your food. Even if the place is half empty (wich it usually is) the service is extremly slow.. The owner thinks she is running some 5 star Vancouver resturaunt when in fact the resturaunt still smells like urine and stale beer as it did before she owned it. She thinks she is some sort of Queen. Will never go back [15 Dec 2003 10:51:46]

what was she thinking? I visited the Alpenhorn on my way through Smithers. It was highly recommended to me by a friend. The waitresses were very friendly, no complaints. The food was of poor quality, and not cooked properly. The women's washroom was crawling with ants, and there were little fruit flies everywhere!!! I had a chance to see the owner (Heidi) briefly. She spoke with the waitresses and the bartender quickly and left. The atmosphere changed quickly once she was gone, and I could tell she was not a pleasant person to work for. The girls that work at the Alpenhorn were very friendly, and the service was excellent. Unfortunately, management was not so, and I was apalled by the amount of insects crawling around. I will not return again. [18 Dec 2003 19:18:43]

Very unclean Went to the ALpenhorn just after christmas, was my first time in since summer. The place smells like urine, the restrooms are very unclean and the Management seems not to care. [10 Feb 2004 14:26:45]

Someones 'experienced' opinion I have been a faithful patron of Heidi for six years or more, and i think all of the changes that have been made to the alpenhorn since she took over have been positive, due to unfounded rumours and harsh judgements she has prevailed through some difficult times this past year...noone gives her credit for that. Her previous restaurant was so fabulous that anyone would find it hard to live up to. I find the new atmosphere, comfortable, very clean, and a great place to meet your friends. The only critiscm is the prices are a bit too high. But she is one of the people I look up to the most, she is so incredibly driven and intelligent, she is caring and generous and she brings out the best in people. Service is almost always prompt and friendly...Everyone needs to remember the difficulties behind running a bar/restaurant, never mind being a respected business woman. ( in a small minded town, nonethe less!) [28 May 2004 02:46:16]

Burgers and fries were ok I'm not a long time resident of Smithers, but when I first got here 8 months ago I really liked the look of the place, but now they seem to be making it a "high-class joint" which in my opinion is always a sad thing to happen to a pub. Though I must say it was the busiest I've ever seen the place. Food was ok, prices were just a tad high, but overall enjoyable. [09 Jul 2004 12:27:56]
