Bitchy
The place was crowded, the servers were rude, the meal was crappy/unacceptable.    [21 Mar 2005 23:26:06]

Best Banana Cream Pie in the World
I drove all the way from Seattle because of the legendary Banana Cream Pie. Just like mom made? Better. And my mother and her mother are award winning pastry chefs.

The pie crust melts in your mouth. The bananas are not too ripe, just perfect. Homemade custard to die for, and of course real whipped cream.    [19 Aug 2005 16:13:26]

Great breakfast place
Friendly locals, helpful waitstaff. Our breakfast was ample and better than average quality, service was excellent. A chance to mingle with the townspeople, who all seem to know each other. Great for families.    [27 Dec 2005 17:26:25]

Good home cookin
For as long as I can remember my family and I would go to mom's cafe every Sunday, I remember the food being great...by the looks of things people don't like the cafe, but when I was 5 I couldn't wait to go!!    [25 Jan 2006 08:21:31]

Gone downhill
I have eaten at Mom's for 30 years. Since the new owner took over the food has deteriorated so much I won't eat there and never recommend the place.

I (as a local) contacted this person with my concerns and was literally brushed off. It is unfortunate, but a Sooke legend is dying a slow death.    [18 Jul 2006 11:19:15]

Greasy spoon
Just returned from a 3 day jaunt to sooke. Have been there 4 times before, and tried just about every restaurant but Mom's, so we did, this time. Big mistake, I ordered the fish and chips, two pieces and got probably 1# of grease laden breading on 3-4 oz of decent fish. Cannot imagine how bad I would have felt, had I attempted to eat the breading and not just the tiny pieces of fish inside. Chips were decent, wife had a large greasy burger that was ok, my son had the roast beef sandwich which was the best, no grease!    [09 Sep 2006 19:00:21]

Moms has gone down hill
I have gone to Moms since I was 5 years old. It was always a place to look forward to. I am afraid I can no longer say that.

The food quality has gone down hill and the prices have sky rocketed. It seems they are often short on staff.
The waiting staff tend to be abrupt or serve very slowly. Don't even bother asking for refills on drinks, they take forever to get them.

They do still have the best apple pie in the world. And for that it is worth putting up with the lack in the other areas. But not on a regular basis    [15 Oct 2006 01:40:17]

Gone way down hill
I've live in Sooke for 26 years and have ate at and suggested Mon's Cafe to others. Would I still do it? I'm afraid not, their food and service has gone down hill. I myself will no longer eat there.    [08 Feb 2007 20:31:15]

Dive
Been here twice. Not my favourite. Staff was rude to me, flirted with my husband, and got our orders wrong. Food was plain.    [15 Feb 2007 23:54:21]

Deceived by listed special
The board listed BBQ chicken burger. What I got was a piece of chicken breast with a scoop of rosemary and a little BBQ sauce on a bun. I asked for the chicken to be cooked a little more as it seemed pinkish. I thought I would get actual BBQ chicken slices in a burger? Who knew?    [21 Apr 2007 16:47:13]
