Description

An Inn and restaurant situated on the South tip of Vancouver Island, the Sooke Harbour House Coastal Retreat has a view across the Straits of San Juan de Fuca to the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. It is a top end resort and restaurant in every sense. The specialty of the restaurant is edible flowers, all of which come from the Inn's own gardens. Each room has a spectacular view.

The wine list is probably the most extensive British Columbia / Pacific Northwest list anywhere.

Sooke Harbour House
Aaaahhhhhh . . .

It doesn't get much better than this. If you love flowers enough to eat them, it doesn't get any better, period. The restaurant is rated one of the best in Canada (I think it is in the top 10 at least) and serves the quintessence of pure Northwest Natural cuisine; I believe all ingredients are locally grown or caught. The rooms all have spectacular views of the Olympic Range across the Straits; many have private hot tubs beside the picture windows. Worthy of a connoisseur honeymoon.

Oh, by the way, it also doesn't get much more expensive. If economy is an issue, don't even think about it.    [05 Dec 1999 02:40:19]

Overcharges at Sooke Harbour House
We stayed at this facility on Thursday, January 31st, and enjoyed most of the experience. Our daughter had stayed there on her honeymoon two years ago and had many compliments to make. We decided to make a Winter Retreat by going from Portland to Vancouver, then Victoria, and then Sooke Harbour. I made the reservations on the phone and asked for the winter packages. Several options were discussed including the room with gourmet dinner option. I booked “The Edible Blossom Room” and the dinner package.

[Details about room charges omitted. Ed.]

At 6 o’clock we arrived for dinner but the staff said that they were not quite ready. We decided to sit by the fireplace and wait until the staff was ready. At that time we were offered some wine to drink. The dinner then followed and was very nice. Wine was delivered for each course and complemented the dish being presented.

The room and the dinner were outstanding.

However, there were problems with the billing and the previously agreed upon price, details of which were sent to Sooke Harbour House, in the hopes that they would be rectified.    [06 Feb 2002 10:50:09]

Complete & utter Rip-off!
Paying through the nose for the scenery. Set menu, with 2 choices for each section; appetizers, meal, etc. Teeny portions, a chowder has become 2 teeny clam shells and 2 teeny mussel shells? Meals run 75.00 per person on average, not counting wine, etc. Heaven forbid you want a cheese plate. Three or four thumbnail sized cubes of five different cheeses, four melba chips, a split walnut, and a diced dried apricot presented on a little slab. A fuki bundle with a sliver of fish on top and half a beet is dinner? The fuki bundle had two tablespoons, if that, of a rice like concoction wrapped in a leaf. And the flower flavoured ice cream was dreadful.    [03 Jun 2007 22:36:17]
