Ridiculously Good Neighorhood Sushi
You can get better sushi in Tokyo but you have to work at it. It's not clear that you can do better in Vancouver. Friendly, efficient, hard to get into at popular mealtimes. Customers are typical Vancouver ethnic hodgepodge. The maki (tekka, kappa) are really stupendously good; perhaps a slightly heavy hand with the wasabi on the nigiri.    [01 Dec 1999 21:18:06]

Shiro is now my new favourite Sushi restaurant in Vancouver. Best food for the price. The spicy Negitoro roll is my main choice.    [14 Feb 2003 22:33:05]

my favourite sushi restaurant in vancouver. $40 a head will be a complete feast with tempura, gyoza, agedashi dofu, sake, the best beef tataki i've ever had, and tons of sushi.

the sushi at shijo's is comparable (the hot food is not, shiro is better), and the meal at yoshi's is comparable, although both of these restaurants are about twice as expensive for the same food. tojo's ... is heavenly, but eating a feast costs $150 a head (without alcohol), so if you want high quality hot food and sushi at an extremely affordable price shiro's is the way to go.

i lived in japan and ate the best food in my life there, and shiro's feels like a meal in japan.    [12 Jan 2004 21:19:31]
