The best in BC
Have eaten here 4 times and have never had anything other than a fantastic meal. The food's always well cooked and the staff attentive. Varied menu which, as you might expect, includes dishes from around the Mediterranean or cooking styles from the area. More expensive than other places in Vernon but well worth it. Wow, what a disappointment. Expensive, small portions, lousy service and noisy as heck. Felt like I was at Boston Pizza.

Unmissable
Have eaten at the Eclectic several times, can't recommend it highly enough.
The menu is excellent, choosing what not to have is the hard part and the wine list and attention to detail are fantastic.

New location kills the mood
The food is still fantastic, the service excellent, but the cozy, Mediterranean feel is completely gone. Feels like every other pretentious restaurant out there.

Not worth it
I "nibled" there only once. Very expensive for what one gets on his or her plate. There are a lot better restaurants in Vernon than this one.    [04 Apr 2008 19:42:20]

Horrible ownership @ Eclectic Med
It was an incredibly bad experience! The night was going well, my friend was singing live and he was great. The server was doing pretty well at keeping up with our table. We had 10 people at our table so it was a bit of work for her. She managed very well until our main meals came.

Unfortunately she never came back to check on how our food was so I never got a chance to tell her that my steak (as well as 3 other people at my table) not prepared the way I had asked. By the time she did return to check on us the rest of the table had finished eating and I felt like not getting another steak prepared. I asked her to just simply remove the steak from the bill as that was the only thing that needed fixing as everything else was great.

She returned to tell me shortly after and informed my that she had paid for one of my drinks in compensation. My wife then asked to see the manager as that was not an appropriate solution. The server directed my wife to a table where the "owner" was sitting. His body language told my wife right away that he was not interested in hearing our story of "the raw steak". The owner was sitting with his legs stretched out feet in the aisle and he never made eye contact with her except to roll his eyes in apparent disgust with us.

After arguing with my wife and telling her that would do nothing about it he got up from his slump and tore a strip off the poor server, she proceeded to cry. Try to remember this is over an undercooked steak. I then approached the bar where all the servers the manager and the owner had gathered to discuss our table. I told the owner, calmly I might add, about the situation and told our server that she had done a great job but did not ask me how my meal was until she cleared my plate. She proceeds to defend her actions telling me she had done so three times. There were ten people at the table were not asked as well how there meal was either so I was not imagining things.

I felt she was trying to protect her job as the owner was quite irrational. He interrupted by adding "fine then I will take five dollars off your meal". I stated that by this point that was not good enough and that not only would I not be back but that I would not be paying for the steak at all. He the yelled "well if you’re not coming back what’s the point fixing it and your being a f'ing a-hole". I then said "pardon me Jacka@*".

He pushed past me and went back to his booth. I followed. When I approached the table he said "what now". I said "I can’t believe that this is how you are going to handle this situation". His response was "we offered a solution and that was not good enough for you, don’t you expect me to back up my servers"! I said "I expect you to back up your food actually"!

The manager then came to the table and asked me to leave mentioning the fact that I was being disruptive and using profanity. Remember he called me a "f'ing a-hole" not the other way around. I said "no problem".

My wife and I exited to the street. My wife then said she did not want our friends to pay for our meal so again went inside to rationalize with the owner.

She asked to sit down and he told her "suit yourself". She told him we were still willing to pay for the rest of the meal excluding the steak but he said "get out and never come back"!
