Famed as one of the late comedian John Candy's favorite restaurants, Alycia's is the ultimate place for comfort food, and lets you sample Winnipeg's Ukrainian culture gastronomically.

The atmosphere is homey and warm, bedecked with Ukrainian knick-knacks and art, and the place is often full of Ukrainian diners. The menu prominently features three types of dishes -- perogies (potato-and-cheese stuffed dumplings, pan fried or boiled); holubtsi (cabbage rolls stuffed with bacon and rice or buckwheat and draped in a tomato sauce); and homemade kolbassa sausages. Soups include an excellent borscht and kapusnyak (zesty sauerkraut).

Alycia's menu also features many North American standards, including plenty of sandwiches on the lunch menu. The restaurant also serves breakfasts. Prices are extremely reasonable, and the service is quick and friendly.    [24 Feb 2004 12:07:06]

Amazing what they say does not do justice. Perogies and Zakusta Heaven!
For those who dont know Zakusta is a sandwich consisting of fresh rye bread with (I think), pickles and Alycia's home made Kolbassa. Mmmmmm.    [18 Dec 2004 14:55:15]
