My favorite Guilty Pleasure....... Don't go for the ambiance, decor or gourmet dining....Do go for the Sirloin Tips and other great Pub Fare. The beer is great, the service is very friendly and quick and the food is Very tasty indeed. The more discriminating pallet may be expecting more than this pub can offer but if it's good, flavourful food, and lots of it, that you seek...this is the place. The Aquarius or "AQ" as everyone calls it (or simply the "Q" by devoted "west-siders") is a Saint John institution. Largely unchanged decor and dim lighting make this spacious pub a true vestige of the 1970’s but the beer is fresh and the food is tasty. For $10-$12 you can eat till you nearly bust and wash it down with a glass or two of beer. The daytime patrons consist of a mostly casual lunch time work crowd, pleasant patrons and staff with the after 6pm/diner crowd mostly college students in search of cheap draft, student party nights, lively entertainment ranging from live music to the hysterical likes of “Tony Lee X Rated Hypnotist”. The “AQ” is on the west side of Saint John and it’s about a 10min drive from the city centre or a $15 cab ride if the beer gets the best of you. Big screen TV’s and VLT’s round out the picture for a “typical” modern day, maritime, pub experience. [14 Feb 2005 14:46:05]
