Great Food Too
This establishment is know for their Martinis and Caesars, but I like to go for the food! I have found great food and good service with staff that are willing to please!    [04 May 2003 13:36:34]

Nothing Bitter at The Bitter End
One bitter night in January 2004 I walked into The Bitter End. It was a lively, quiet spot with soft music playing. Diners were eating at little tables and two bartenders were kept busy early evening fixing mainly martinis. My cheerful bartender, Ryan, gave me what I asked for: an Oland beer.

The place was cozy and warm, the chef dressed handsomely in a white uniform looked out now and then from the window beside the bar. Patrons talked quietly, but lively -- sometimes laughter and chuckles could be heard.

I was definitely under dressed in blue jeans and a baseball cap, but Ryan, the bartender made me feel as wanted (and as special) as any other customer in the establishment.

The bathrooms were very clean, which impressed me.

Back at the bar, glasses shined and martinis glasses were kept upside down on ice to keep their rims ice-cold -- anticipating customers.

The Bitter End is a class act lounge which I felt safe, cozy, and happy. And I was alone. I can just imagine how couples would feel.

I didn't try the food, but I saw lots of it coming from the kitchen and it smelled really good and the hot steam was pouring from it. The bartenders are happy and extremely professional.

The Bitter End is a surprise, by name, because the place certainly is no bitter end when you want to be entertained in such warm atmosphere. I highly recommend the place. Try it out, but perhaps order a martini instead of a beer.    [31 Jan 2004 15:37:07]

A great little bar that shouldn't have expanded
Don't get me wrong, I still go there. But I feel like this place is trying to do too much...be a cool bar, and a good restaurant...and I'm not sure it pulls everything off.

The martinis are as good as the ones at Seven, and the appetizers are as yummy as usual. They revamped the martini menu and turfed some of my favourites, but I guess I forgive them (you can usually get 'em if you ask). They do have the best saganaki in town, including the Greek circuit.

Alas, the dinner menu is overpriced and most dishes taste like Price Club entrees with too little camouflage (in other words, same as La Cave). The atmosphere is highly date-worthy, though a bit loud. Service is hit-or-miss and a couple of servers have perpetually snotty attitudes while others are extremely efficient and friendly.

All in all, a great bar.    [24 Nov 2004 23:30:00]

On the map!
Bitter End puts Argyle St. on the map of downtown Halifax. Great martinis, cocktails, and awesome frozen drinks! The food menu is tame but tasty and the saganaki is by far the best in town. If you're out to impress the Bitter End is a must: professional, polite, and pleasing! Keep up the good work guys!    [01 Apr 2007 02:26:14]
