Not the place for steak in Ottawa
The Grillman restaurant in Ottawa came highly recommended by a good collegue. He claimed that this was the best location in Ottawa for a rib steak dinner. This is my second time dining at this restaurant and I can say without hesitation that I will never return unless the quality of the food improves significantly. One of the claims to fame for this establishment is an all-you-can-eat soup and salad bar. On the night I dined, this included a vegetable and a cream soup, both of which tasted like they were straight from a can. The "salad bar" consisted of a mobile cart with the following: a large bowl of iceberg lettuce, an almost empty bowl of tomatoes and cucumbers, a bowl of beets, a bowl of coleslaw, a bowl of pasta salad, three dressings and some stale croutons. At the suggestion of my colleague, we both ordered the 16 oz. rib steak special. Upon ordering, the server informed us that the 16 oz. was unavailble, but that a 13 oz. could be substituted and that the price would be adjusted accordingly. My steak came with a small scoop of "garlic mashed potatoes" that proved to be nothing more than some instant potatotes with some garlic power/salt or Mrs. Dash mixed in. While the steak did come medium-rare as requested, it was mostly gristle and very hard to chew. The only saving grace to an otherwise awful meal was a slice of chocolate mouse cake that was ordered for desert which proved to be quite good and plated nicely with fresh cream. Overall, despite the friendly service, this was a very bad experience in terms of the food involved. I would very much discourage anyone from visiting this restaurant if they are interested in a good steak meal here in Ottawa.    [17 Jun 2003 11:21:32]

Excellent Restaurant
This is my favorite place to dine in Ottawa. It has the best steak, ribs and pizza in Ottawa. And the Salad bar is amazing. Their House Dressing they have is the best I have had in a long time.

The only thing I disliked was the size of the place was a bit small, and the washrooms we're sort of in a seperate area. But it has a nice quiet and friendly atmosphere.    [09 Dec 2006 11:49:49]
