This restaurant was an unexpected find.
The only eating spot in the small but truly beautiful town of Oxford Mills, the Brigadoon is located in an imposing stone building that is itself an attraction. The dining room is large and will seat at least sixty people comfortably.
We were there for lunch. My wife enjoyed a fresh salad with breast of chicken and I had perhaps the best beef stew I've ever experienced. The dining room seems at first to be a little cluttered but all the bric-a-brac were authentic little treasures, and diners are invited to examine anything that catches their eye.
The desserts were at least as good as anything similar that I've tried. I had an apple-pecan-custard item in phylo pastry which actually sounds better than it was and my wife had a carrot and zuchinni torte that was superb.
The service was both enthusiastic and unobtrusive. This place definitely ranks with the finer gourmet and 'bistro' style restaurants in Toronto and Ottawa and is worth a hundred mile drive. [27 Oct 2004 20:34:29]
