Description
The New "Roxy Diner" which was formerly known as "The Bridge/Lakeview Restaurant" has taken on a few major changes. Although it is under the same ownership during it's current 'rejuvenation', some new ideas include a future billiards hall in the space next door (which used to be the Roxy Theatre way back when)...hence the new name! The billiards room is accessible via the main restaurant or the separate bar area. Menu includes typical restaurant/bar offerings, fish (including fresh Lake Erie perch) and steak dinners, soups and specialty sandwiches, and breakfast only on weekends, when they open as early as seven a.m. There is also a smallish licenced patio out front with rim counters where you can sit 'al fresco', eat, drink and watch the operation of the only lift bridge in this part of the world (circa 1939), and quaint sailboat and pedestrian traffic as well. There is a small municipal parkette in front of the patio, before the street. The inner decor includes several booths for that 'special date', as well as open-table seating in the main lounge. The Roxy has proven to handle large crowds as well, service wise, but its kitchen can get overwhelmed, so be patient if that appears. Almost every table has a magnificent view of the harbour in all its' splendor! Many of the films that might have been projected back in the Roxy days are depicted in marquis posters throughout the restaurant, but the relationship between the name and the reason for the decor are scant. Parking is limited out front, but there's a fair sized municipal lot just around the corner on Col. Bostwick Street, free of charge.

No Pizzaz! Why go through all of the hard work to change the name, menu and theme, yet not improve on the food???? I've gone in a few times to 'try it again' and have left disappointed every time! [03 May 2005 21:40:25]

Reminisce...for a second I found the food at Roxy's to be just as good as it used to be, other than the sad fact that many of the previous owners specialties were omitted from the menu. The Burgers & fries are STILL awesome to soothe a hangover (my judgement!) The current owner seems to be 'playing it safe', menu-wise, for the time being...gosh knows how much money can be spent to rennovate a Port Stanley icon! I urge all you perspective clients to give him your input. What he does with it will tell you how serious he is about getting it 100% right. Roxy looks kool, the upscale theme is nice, the wait staff is as attentive as ever. The place provides private booths and open dining, and the kitchen is finally segregated from the dining room as it should be. The 'hole in the wall' (where food is passed thru -a diner concept-)is gone, and we know where to pay our tab. I know they'll move tables together to accommodate big seatings (call ahead, eh?) The theme works, although I would imagine that more (most) entree's would try to accommodate the theme a bit. The lounge is accessible from the dining area, and dining is encouraged from the lounge, although I have a hard time imagining a planned pool hall attached to a relative 'dining' area. Perhaps a seperate entrance to that new addition is in the works. Dunno. As long as Roxy keeps it's "Wally-Fresh" credo, the Roxy should do well. Albeit, I really miss the spatzle and beef. Perhaps that'll come when they figure out what Port wants...and that's the biggest secret since I've been in these 'woods'!!!! We all change... That's spatzle history there. Big time Hungarian - I know...I'm a Uke! Sincerely Portguy [16 May 2005 23:33:29]

Improved Quality I had breakfast today at the Roxy. I really think they're making an effort to improve the quality of the food. For the first time, I can say that EVERYTHING was perfect (today). I asked Laura Lee "The Friendliest Waitress in Town' to pass on to the kitchen staff "a job well done". I think people working in the industry deserve to be told when things are done well or 'with love' as I like to say. They certainly get an earful from dissatisfied patrons; why not pass on the positive comments too! Service has always been good at the 'Bridge', but the food has been inconsistent throughout the years. They've changed the breakfast potatoes from bad to great! Those little decisions go a long way. The eggs came exactly as ordered. The 'over easy' was done 'over easy', the 'over medium' was done.... well, you get my point! Laura Lee really is the friendliest waitress in town. Other servers there are great too, but Laura Lee goes out of her way to make people feel comfortable and important. She makes a point of referring to everyone by his or her name. Her memory is incredible. I also appreciate how she remembers the little things that people like. When I order an orange juice, she serves it to me in a tall glass with lots of ice.... just like I like it. When I order eggs, she brings them to me with a bottle of Franks Red Hot sauce (that she purchased herself in grocery store to have on hand at the restaurant). Those things go a long way. So overall, I commend the Roxy diner for polishing up their 'act'. The service is professional and the food is improving! Kudos to the Roxy Diner! [23 May 2005 12:43:09]
