Cross into Belfast This icon of Irish culture is in it's fifth decade and doesn't seem to be slowing down. Any business would be proud to have the staying power of McVeigh's.
I started frequenting the establishment in the early 80's and it was my local for nearly 15 yrs. Living across the country from the Windsor House makes it difficult to return for a quick jar but when I do, I feel like the prodigal son; greeted at the door, the fatted calf is slain, and the Craic's fantastic. "A pint of Murphy's is it?"
Clientele ranges from students to business types, hard working types to no working types, the Irish and those that wish they were.
The food is simple and unpretentious. The type that reminds you of mom's cooking or that friend's mother's cooking if your mom's answer to dinner was take out or the microwave.
Live entertainment is always on hand... whether it's the band or the patrons. [13 Dec 2004 20:02:29]
