Wonderful Evening
This was my first visit to the Grill and I was delighted! The atmosphere was warm and classy and the indoor patio area was a neat addition. I ordered the 8oz Sirloin meal and it was excellent. The service was the outstanding highlight of the evening though -- our server was possibly the best I'd ever had.    [07 Aug 2002 12:52:53]

Best Filet Mignon I Ever Had
Along w/ the rice pilaf and roasted tomato, truly a delicious meal. The service was very spotty however. I hate when wait staff assumes a solo dinner is not a big enough ticket. I was shuffled from waiter to waiter and offered the worst seat in the place even though it was 1/2 empty. I would return for the food though.    [23 Oct 2004 17:06:27]

What Was The Big Hype?
I am one of the biggest restaurant goers in history, I think. I really do enjoy different restaurants, what they have to offer, and the atmosphere. I came up from Regina for the weekend and went to this place for supper. People talked so highly of this place and I was excited for the change of pace from all the franchise restaurants in Regina. When I walked in with my date, I thought wow, this place looks pretty good. We sat down. Then it was all down hill from there. I can tell you after this experience, I will never have a good thing to say about this place. First off it took about 5 mins to get my first greeting from the waitress. I didn't feel like alcohol so I just had a diet coke. I'm not sure if they had to ship in the coke but it took about 15 mins to get. And no it wasn't that busy in the restaurant. After about another 15 mins we got our food order taken. We ordered the crab and artichoke dip to start with. The problem was that it took 30mins to get to the table. For entree's we ordered the chicken with wild rice and the pork tenderloin. That took 30-40mins from the starter we had. The portion versus price was horrible. I understand that this is a trend, good food, small portion, big price. That's fine with me, but what about quality. Pork was tasteless, chewy and nothing tender about it. I tried my date's dish out just to see if that was any better. Again, tasteless and just didn't look good. I'm not one to complain but not only was the service slow and bad, the food was too. I think maybe I should give it another shot, but it'll take me alot of convincing and someone else better be paying    [20 Dec 2004 23:16:12]

Excellent Service, Tacky Advertising.
Went on a Friday evening and it was busy but service was great - the parkade under the Scotia Centre had closed so the Manager escorted us down personally to grant us exit when we were finished our meal!
My only beef with this place is their lame advertising - catering specifically to "big whig execs" from Toronto or Calgary - the air of pretention will not fly in Saskatoon, where their main customer base remains. I find the ads insulting. Plus, when I have guests from large cities outside Sask I take them to the Granary for good food and unique atmosphere. The 2nd Ave Grill is no big deal to urbanites.    [15 Dec 2006 17:09:34]

Not Convinced
I don't see why people like this restaurant. It is not that upscale or "big city" like they always advertise. It lacks character. The service is always rushed and their menu is so ho-hum. The items are all very common-place and many items are very similar so you really don't have many options. I had the duck at it was mediocre and cold.    [02 Oct 2007 16:37:45]
