Not as Good as it Once Was I have been going to Alexander's for a decade and they used to offer the best service in town with a pretty good menu but over the last two years almost half my visits have had below average service and poorly prepared meals. When the kitchen staff is on, it is my favorite place to eat although after a series of overcooked/undercooked meals, I find myself eating their less often. [10 Sep 2003 01:10:52]

Good Food but Erratic Service Have been going here for a decade. Love the nachos, can be the best in town.
Last three times we have been in there, the kitchen has badly messed up orders and the servers have been indifferent. It is still a great place to hang out in and is one of those places were all of us love just to go and relax.
The downstairs is generally quieter and more relaxed then the upstairs which is the smoking section and bar. During the summer months they also have a great deck (although I wish they had gone for some nicer deck chairs) .
The restaurant is still the best maintained restaurant in Saskatoon and among the best in the city, it just isn't as good as it used to be. [16 Sep 2003 18:32:57]

A Nice University Hangout I used to go to Alexander's all the time while attending university, since it's right across the street from the campus. Always had good food and drinks there. Service has always ranged from good to poor. Still it is a comfortable spot to enjoy good food and drinks with friends. [19 Apr 2004 14:47:46]

Better Than It Was A Few Years Ago Frankly there aren't any truly good places to eat in Saskatoon. So while this restaurant might be considered sub par in a bigger city, in Saskatoon it is one of the better places you will find.
Reading the other reviews, I have to agree that Alexander's was terrible for a while. This restaurant lost its head chef in 2002 and swiftly went down hill.
Fortunately it has vastly improved over the past 2 years (they finally got a new chef). The quality of the food has stabilized and increased, and the service is acceptable for a small non-chain restaurant.
While this is most certainly not the best place I have been to, it is good for those on a budget. The food is cheap, fresh (everything is made in-house, even the chicken fingers), and well prepared, although it tends to be a little basic.
All of their desserts are made in-house, and there are a wide variety to choose from; everything from Bread Pudding to Mud Pie to numerous types of Cheese Cake. Be warned: their dessert portions are HUGE. You will likely find yourself taking a half piece of Chocolate Carrot Cake home with you. [07 Jul 2006 11:39:29]

They split it into up and downstairs--the former is more like pub and the bottom a restaurant. The service is always mediocre--I have been there many times after being on campus and have waited long times for service and bills. it can be very hard to get seating at times since they dont have much capacity. Some of the hostesses can be real iron maidens too and wont let you upstairs to the bar unless you have a reservation. The decor is pretty unmemorable, the tables are covered in plastic picnic tablesclothes, a real nice touch. The food is usually okay but nothing special. They tend to give large portions but who really wants to eat 5 pounds of cheese and noodles when you order lasagne. [31 Jul 2007 13:47:19]

Not As Bad As Everyone Says. Went to Alexander's on a Saturday for supper and the service was excellent. Food was top notch and the selection of dessert were to die for. if you want the brownie sundae after the great portion for a meal, make sure you share it. [17 Aug 2007 11:50:31]
