The Lighthouse restaurant is right on the water, so if you can get a table on the porch, it's quite pleasant. As you enter, there is a small gallery of trinkets which is worth a look. Many of them are for sale. Also of interest are the giant decorative plates which they both sell and serve on. The food here is among the best I have tried on Grand Cayman. Predominantly an Italian eatery, the menu features exquisite homemade pasta, such as lobster gnocchi. There are also several seafood dishes, each with a distinctive ethnic flavor. The menu is very descriptive and won't leave you wondering what you're ordering. The star of the show here are the desserts; they do not skimp on the portion size. The beignets, in particular, are colossal and are not to be missed. The service was adequate, though they did inconveniently miss a coffee order for one member of our party which caused his coffee to arrive well after dessert was finished. Other than that, I am able to give The Lighthouse the most glowing recommendation of any restaurant I have tried on Grand Cayman to date.    [05 Mar 2006 22:58:11]
