Description

Fresh seafood mixed with traditional Chinese and Dim Sum specialties. There is a fast food grab and go downstairs that seats about 12 and the main restaurant upstairs with seating for 100 or more. Primarily a "locals only" establishment that is very clean and comfortable with very reasonable pricing. Within walking distance of most harbor area hotels.

Fresh, Delectable and Affordable!
Primarily a locals only place, big ol' fat Americans like me get stared at pretty hard when entering. The manager "Ringo" made us feel right at home. While they do have one or two copies of the menu in English, we let Ringo order for us and everything was outstanding. We went primarily to have a beer to cool down and to have Dim Sum (recommended by our bellman) and were a little disappointed that there weren't the little carts that roll by. However, in this place there really wasn't any room for carts and the stuff was made to order which made it a bit fresher than we expected. The serving sizes were much bigger than other Dim Sum restaurants in town so overeating was on the menu every visit. Of particular note was their Chinese broccoli and Chinese spinach. Both are steamed to a crisp done-ness and kissed with a sauce that made it ever so tasty. Their seasonal specialty at the time we were there was a hot pot with vegetables and fish in a sort of a stew. WONDERFUL!! However, the specialty changes with the availability of different items. Like many seafood restaurants, there are tanks of various fish, crab and shrimp at the front, but there is also the butcher right in the middle of them that will clean your selection right there for you! A little different for our wimpy American senses, but you couldn't ask for fresher! And the price was very reasonable. For four people (two of which were big eaters and another two were big beer drinkers) we usually got out of there with a bill of $150-200HK ($20-30 US). There are a couple of drawbacks to the place ... most of the wait staff speak no English so if Ringo isn't in, ordering can be quite an adventure. Plus, like most places in Hong Kong, EVERYBODY smokes and the non-smoking section might as well be right in the middle of the smoking section because ... well, IT IS! However, ventilation was very good so we weren't really bothered. And if you look like an American but order something really "local", the serving girls are likely to pass you by and take it back to the kitchen. We had our chicken feet as well as our jelly fish taken back once they took a look at us. Ringo said the girls thought that the waiter had ordered wrong for us and they didn't want to embarrass us with ugly food. It may be ugly but it ws yummy!!    [08 May 2006 18:54:08]
