Valentine Dinner
Ambience: The head waiter had a friendly disposition and engaged us in light conversation on entering, whilst confirming the reservation and being shown to our table. The low lighting and Valentines Day décor whilst understated was effective. Table: Individual and roomy, with nice touches: candle lit, scrolled menu tied with red ribbon and a love heart helium balloon tied to the ladies chair. Service: Immediately, our waiter presented a single red rose to my wife, a nice touch, before bringing hot bread rolls with a flavoured olive oil dip.
Wine: The house red, decent Chianti, great value for money. Decanted at the table, another nice touch. Menu: The starter: a melee of garlic prawn, sliced lobster tail, goose liver, marinated artichoke and salad leaves. A nice combination but the marinated artichoke did not blend well, too acidic. Sorbet: A tasty and refreshing, if not a little sweet blackcurrant sorbet. The main course consisted of beef and deer fillet in a rich red wine sauce with sautéed pumpkin and parmesan mashed potatoes, garnished with asparagus. My wife had the salmon and sea bass, garnished with a langoustine in orange sauce. The beef and deer fillet worked really well, however, the salmon and sea bass were overpowered by the orange sauce. The desert was a light chocolate mouse on a sponge base with mango coulee, which was nice but missing something in the texture. Coffee was not included in the set Valentine menu.
