Tasty food and pleasant experience
We discovered Polyphemus by change after taking a boat from Kefalonia to Ithaci then walked up the high mountain to Stavros village hoping to find a nice Taverna for lunch; the climb takes around 30 minutes up the windy road on foot but was worth every step in the hot sun.

The garden well shaded by citrus trees and nicely decorated with handpicked homey items, including fishermen ropes and big seashells to add to the warm Greek atmosphere. Tables are clean with colorful printed maps of the island which is different than the usual one color maps, it made us feel that someone was trying to go the extra mile to make the customers happy.

The menu is a well mixture of regional Greek dishes but the specialties include a tasty marinated fish plater called Savóro that is based on an old traditional Venition recipe of sweet raisins and herbs. You should also try the homemade crunchy Pitta bread with Fava split pea dip, and the delicious stuffed grilled squid. The portions are big and the food is of high quality and really tasty.

Monica is a great host who was cheerful and enthusiastic about recommending dishes, and helping other customers with driving directions around the island. She made us feel welcomed and not in a hurry to leave for a change in today’s fast paced world.
