Bitterly Disappointed! Before going to Bangkok Café on 24 May 2003, I had read that it had real authentic Thai cuisine, that it was well worth going, and that, shortly, this was the place to be in Dublin for Thai food lovers.
Well this is NOT the case ! The food is not bad, though, but it is not really Thai. The waiters are Chinese and I suspect that the cook is Chinese, too. I've spent some time in Thailand, in various regions, and I can recognize real Thai food.
The atmoshpere was particularly gloomy, with the front door locked (to prevent disappointed clients from rushing out maybe). The waiters were a bit too zealed to be honest, and that impression was confirmed afterwards when they charged us a 10% service charge. I can accept this if it is somehow mentioned somewhere on the menu, but not like this.
We paid cash, as they don't take credit cards, and then they took the tip for granted, i.e. they did not return the change. On top of all the rest, it was a bit too much ! We usually leave tips, but then we choose to do it and how much we give.
All things considered, I strongly recommend that Thai food lovers avoid this gloomy and expensive place where the food is not Thai and the waiters try to rip you off. [28 May 2003 05:28:02]
