Description

A modern and welcoming osteria in the center of town, Osteria La Libera has a relaxed, informal atmosphere: it offers strictly Piedmontese fare, including a big selection of Piedmont cheeses and wines. Among the local specialities: soused eel salad, tajarin (fresh egg noodles) with rabbit ragu, sweet and sour calf's head salad, stinco di vitello (knuckle of veal) in Barbaresco, gallinella di mare (gurnard - also called sea robin because of its red color), and torrone (hazelnut nougat) mousse. The restaurant is listed by the Italian Slow Food Association.

Welcoming? Not really.
We have been there 4 years ago, and found the food great. 2 years ago, we could not get a table. Now, last week, we went there again, with 2 friends who had a 2-year old boy, after our Italian hotel made a lunch reservation for us. I must say that I have never ever felt so unwanted, or have been treated in a more unfriendly and rude way as in this restaurant. The worst part is when my 2 friends with the baby buggy arrived. 3 Minutes later my friends left, crying, because of the really rude behavior of the main waitress, and we were left stunned and speechless (and should have left also, but this came completely as a surprise for us). On top of that, at the table next to us, 2 Asian tourists were treated equally unkindly, were left without drink or food for some minutes, etc. I suggest to post a sign on the front door of this restaurant saying: "No tourists welcome!" This would have spared us a really negative experience.    [06 Nov 2007 06:24:36]
