Description

The restaurant I Girasole (the sunflowers), formerly called the Venezia, is located near the center of the scenic hilltop village of San Marzano Oliveto. It serves typical Piedmont cuisine, but make sure you arrive hungry: the antipasti are delivered in a seemingly endless sequence of separate dishes.

It is probably better to park in the main square and walk back to the restaurant, rather than to attempt to negotiate the small car park.

As good as it gets.
We had been travelling all day from Norway - with no really big expectations, we sat down hoping to get a taste of the Piedmontese kitchen. And what a taste we got! Small and not so small dishes kept coming endlessly. We later found out we could skip 1 or 5 of them - as the locals did. We decided after dish number 11 that enough was enough: but then it was time for the meat course! No Italian meal is complete without an espresso, and some spumante, not to mention some grappa...

Fortunately we we staying close by, and downhill! By far the best meal we had in our stay. We later ate in some starred restaurants, but nothing came close.    [26 Dec 2007 11:05:47]
