Mediocre food, lousy service
After a rather fun but tiring weekend playing in a tournament in Kopstal, two friends and myself decided to try the Auberge Weidendall, as it was supposed to be really good.

We booked a table for dinner on a Sunday night and let me tell you, it was probably my worst experience in Luxembourg.

My opinions follow: the food was not bad, but nothing to write home about. The smoked salmon was of average quality, and while the quality of the fillet was good, the meat was unacceptably over-cooked (we asked for medium-rare, and got a medium-well to well-done).

If that was the sum of my gripes, I'd tell you to go visit. It is, after all, rather picturesque. However, the service was abysmal in my opinion. The waiter was intolerably rude to the point of even laughing in our faces! He pointedly spoke no other language other than French and understood probably half of what we asked for in English (he brought two entrees of smoked salmon instead of the one we had asked for).

If you are not a local, I would definitely recommend AGAINST dining in Auberge Weidendall. I don't think they like foreigners very much there, and while it poses as a mid- to high-level establishment, and the trappings are all there, the quality is most definitely absent.

A shame, really, because some local (Luxembourgian) friends told me they really enjoyed the food there.    [06 Jun 2007 05:26:15]
