best restaurant around
My lady and I dined at the Garrison one evening and I would have to say not only is it the best restaurant on Norfolk it would have to be one of the best i have been to.The service was friendly, fast and efficent something alot of good restaurants lack. The restaurant manager Cain and chef owner Michael run a very tight ship were you will be totally suprised with the quality of the food and service.    [23 Jul 2003 20:59:08]

very over-rated
Always talked about as being the best on Norfolk. I beg to disagree. We ate there two years running on visits to Norfolk. The first time we were disappointed, but decided to give it a second try earlier this year. The second meal was awful. We will not try again next year. Is also very overpriced.    [19 Nov 2003 17:27:44]

Third time unlucky
So we tried a third time. The starters looked beautiful on huge white plates, good enough to photograph. Tasted ok, but pity I only had 2 scallops.

We waited nearly an hour for the mains and the restaurant was not busy. The eye fillet was ok, but my kangaroo was practically inedible and my knife could scarcely cope. Tough and dry. Probably has to be frozen or chilled to come from the mainland, but if the chef can't do better than this it should definitely be taken off the menu.

This was our last visit without a doubt.    [28 Feb 2004 16:15:42]

Disappointed diner replies
I am rather suspicious about all these other reviews. Just about every one has grammar or spelling mistakes or language that is not the norm for the age group of most visitors to Norfolk. Is it possible that the restaurant owners and their friends are doing the reviews? Just look at the other restaurants - very few have reviews - again a sign of the age group prevailing amongst visitors.    [03 Aug 2004 00:30:39]

Fantastic!!
I recently dined at the Garrison on Norfolk Island with my little sister and mother whilst on holiday on Norfolk Island. I was not expecting this quality of restaurant on such a small island but can honestly say that it would give any Soho restaurant a run for its money!! The food and service were faultless and I have no hesitation in recommending the restaurant to any future visitors to the island - it is an absolute must!!    [13 Aug 2004 11:56:17]

Hurray - it's changed hands!
Having heard about new owners we decided to try it for a 4th time. Pleased we did. It is now much better. The food is less pretentious and works better. We recognised the waiter who said he thought it was better as did most other diners. Both menu and wine list are reasonably priced for the quality. As with most restaurants on Norfolk (apart from Seaworld) things change all the time and am pleased to say this time the change is for the better. We recommend it.    [26 Feb 2006 22:35:05]

Yummy, I'd do it again
The new owners have done wonderful renovations to the place, a total revamp. Well when I met the chef it was a surprise when a young girl(21) appeared and I didn't believe it. It's a credit to her and her partner. Great job with all great food and ambiance. We will be back.    [20 Apr 2006 02:00:12]

Also disappointed
We couldn't wait to try Garrison Restaurant on our second visit to Norfolk Island, and were very disappointed. There were 4 of us, so we chose a good range of dishes from the menu. It was a busy night, but the service was very slow, which shouldn't be a problem for a well run restaurant. Drinks and meals were way too slow getting to the table. The meals too were okay, but not of the standard we were expecting. It was also cold and draughty where we were seated. Wouldn't recommend it and wouldn't return.

Deeply disappointed
Well, I came on line to check prices for this restaurant, Garrison's, and realised that there are no menu or price listings and was wondering how would people who want to come to this restaurant know of prices and food beforehand?Because of the lack of information therefore when I ate at this restaurant I was deeply disappointed about the food and the wine for quite a bit of money, I felt ripped off.    [05 Mar 2007 02:01:14]
