The food was amazing, just thinking of it right now is making my mouth water with expectation. Hossein, the owner, dashes from table to table, entertaining the guests about the food, its ancient origins and preparations while treating you as a king in his noble court. He feeds you every bite.
I loved the kebab, it was exceptional. The roti chanai or however you spell it was sweet but what made it excellent was the sauce though my friends preferred it without the sauce.
The price is reasonable for the quality of food the place serves, normally; I believe its 400 pesos per head but the quality of the food makes it look very reasonable. [21 Apr 2006 14:13:15]

Must try I lived in Manila 3.1/2 years and ate in Hossein's restaurant hundresds of times. You never get tired of eating there. Everything is different and special. Price is very good for the quality you get. Location is excellent. And Hossein, himself, is a professional, honest, hardworking and kind man. Just trust me and try it yourself. [20 Feb 2007 08:08:45]

Don't even waste your money The food here is not good at all. Their Basmati rice with saffron barely has saffron and the rice is not fresh. The beef kebab was gainy and didn't have any flavor. Their Greek salad had too much oil. All you can taste was the oil and hardly the lemon. I also asked for lemon they gave me two slices and charged me P138.00 for the lemon. Can you believe that. A restaurant that charges as much as they do for their food should give free lemon and not charge that much. What a rip off. To top it off I ordered two rice dishes and when I got the bill they charged me for three and charged me extra for my beef kebab. Thinking that I would not look at the bill. They charged me an extra P500.00 for my bill. If I hadn't looked at it they would have gotten away with it. The waiters couldn't even answer my questions regarding the dishes that they served. What idots. If you have a restaurant make sure you know your menu and not hired idiots to serve customers. This is the most awful place I have ever eaten at. The food is not good at all, not fresh and the service is awful. Don't bother coming to this place. It's an awful imitation of real Persian food. You have to go to Persia or California to find the real Kebab places not here in Hossein's. [15 Apr 2008 10:10:16]

This is as close as you get without going to Iran Man, I love this place, it gives you real Persian cuisine without going back to Iran. I always come here if I miss home. [28 May 2008 07:28:18]

A bit overrated I've been wanting to try Hosseins for a long time every time I pass through Makati Ave, more so when a Qatari businessman based in Manila recommended it highly. I ordered the basic: meat samosa, chelou kebab, keema, shrimp soup, mango lassi. The Keema was quite salty, the beef kebab didnt taste too special (my friend suspected they used extenders). The meat samosas though were wonderful - the pastry shell had the texture of fortune cookies, but the meat and spices inside was just perfect, especially when dipped in what was closer to a spinach pesto dip. Asking for garlic sauce cost an extra P75! The mango lassi shake (aka mango yoghurt) was on the very sweet side but it was generally ok. Meal for two of us cost us about p2,400 or P1,200 per head.
People might remark, what right have I to pass judgment on Persian food? well, I've been to Dubai, Doha Qatar and Bahrain. Tasted Persian food in Manila as well as in Virginia. Locally, for fine dining, I'd pick Arya at the promenade. my personal favorite for best kobideh, beef kebab, keema, et al is Arya's sister resto SOFREH (near Oyster Boy, across KFC/Shakeys/Pizza Hut at the Greenhills Shopping Center). For best Persian food suited to Pinoy palate, Behrouz Wilson and Metrowalk are better picks. Happy dining though! [08 Jul 2008 14:35:31]
