Simple: Best Resto in Metro Manila
I have lived in Manila for going on four years. My office is near Chateau (Ortigas) and for some reason, I just didn't check it out. So much time and money wasted at other restaurants nearby.

About a year ago I began dining there and it is wonderful. I have eaten at the finest restaurants in Manila and the US, and I must say that Chateau is definitley in my top 10. Why?:

1. Atmosphere: warm, cozy, inviting, timeless

2. Service: attentive, humble

3. Food: excellent (to wit: Hunters Chicken -- the pasta on the side is heaven, Pan Fried Chicken with Three Cheeses, Open Faced Lagsinia (sp?), Ravioli. The best, however, is the beef bracholie (sp?) for your appitizer -- if I were to face a firing line at dawn and was asked what my last meal choice was, this would be it. Try the fondue with a group, it's so good it will (as they say in Texas), "make you want to slap your momma!"

Chateau 1771 has survived over a decade in Ortigas and once you try it, you'll understand why. Tell them Sir Tim sent you!

This said, I must balance this review with a couple of MINOR complaints:

1. The bread at the begining of the meal could be better. I'd suggest a basket of warm rolls, or perhaps fresh french bread (visit Le Souf to see what I mean).

2. The doors to the kitchen could be a bit less intrusive.

PS: after eating at Chateau head over to San Mig Pub for a few drinks. It's a great way to spend an evening out in Ortigas    [21 Nov 2004 06:26:56]

My favourite restaurant in the world
I have been eating, drinking coffee and lounging around Chateau 1771 since 1996. I have spent significant time in Chicago and New York and now live in Upstate New York. One of the things I miss most about home is this restaurant. Trust me! Try to dine on an evening where they have live musicians. Food, atmosphere and people are perfect. Feels exactly like home.    [22 Sep 2007 15:38:48]
