So so PRATA This popular joint is overrated. The Prata is very small and as a result only had about 3 layers. Whilst it tasted OK, the texture was poor, a far cry from the great pratas of Brunei (the best I have tasted) and Malaysia. Curries were OK but not cheap given the ambience. [16 Mar 2002 19:38:57]

Unhygienic Saw them use the tablecloth to wipe washed plates and utensils. What can be creditted is that their prata and mutton curry are not bad, though the prata should be the plain type, not the ones which has eggs added. PS: standard of prata goes up and down, not a good idea to try it during peak hours. [14 Feb 2003 12:27:26]

Waited for 1 hour Thasevi is over-rated!
Because I live in Punggol, I usually drop by Jalan Kayu for supper. There is usually not a long wait at Thasevi, and even if there is, the crowd moves fairly fast.
But on the day I went, there were few people waiting, and I was told that we have to pay first. I did, and I waited for almost an HOUR for my food! After 45 minutes I asked them for my food, and seems like they just don't care!
To top it off, no drinks was served to us while we waited for 1 hour! My goodness! No more Thasevi for me! [18 May 2006 00:43:57]

Bad bad service I'm a Malaysian and have relatives in Singapore. We went to this restaurant on a fine Sunday morning for breakfast.
The menu on the wall was quite interesting, with eye catching varieties. It's quite different from other restaurants though, in that we need to place the order at the counter, pay before the food is served, and then sit down and wait. The problem was that we had to wait for 45 minutes. Back in Malaysia, we're served in 5 minutes, 15 minutes max. Moreover, when I ordered at the counter, the cashier didn't inform us that it would take that long. Two tables beside me had left due to the long wait.
Fast forward to 45 minutes later, my food came. Just one roti prata kosong and one egg prata with teh cino. These pratas are quite good, and the curry is tasty too. The teh cino is some sort of teh tarik with lots of milk added to it. Not too bad.
Lastly, the hygiene. The tables are not cleaned properly. There were curry stains on the side of the table I was sitting at. Then there was this ah ma cleaning up the tables. She just picks up the plates and simply wipe the table with the "this is not 5 star so I'll just heck care" attitude. It seemed that she doesn't like her job very much.
Lastly, the food is not bad, actually one of the better pratas I've tried. Small portion, crispy and served hot. Curry chicken is good. Great blend of spices. Bad service, unfriendly waiter. ROTI PRATA SPECIALIST SINCE 1960?? Its far below par. [16 Oct 2007 11:47:07]

around the world for some prata
Still the best! I enjoy Thasevi's prata whenever I have the time. It is still the best. After reading all the comments above, all I can say is, get real. Don't expect great service when there is a crowd. Go during the off peak hours and be courteous to the elder service folks. [10 Feb 2008 04:03:02]
