Reassuring fish at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront
The Ocean Basket was the first restaurant I visited on a recent trip to Cape Town, so I can congratulate the waitstaff on being unflustered by my jet lag and general confusion. Waiters were helpful and attentive, pointing out when a slightly different combination of menu items would result in more food for a lower price.

A calamari and shrimp combo was satisfyingly salty and buttery, with the calamari nicely tender. The accompanying chips were crisp (and benefit from being dipped in the garlic that comes with the complementary bread basket). The list of inexpensive regional wines works well with the garlicky nature of the food. Dessert choices include a nicely light chocolate mousse.
