Watch Out! For the second time in a row I've been ripped-off by San Carlo:
Watch out! They add 10% to the bill and still offer you space on your credit card voucher for a gratuity. Make sure you're reasonably sober when paying.
I asked for a bottle of 'cost-effective' Chianti at £16 last night and received their most expensive version (£35 and not worth it). It arrived (suspiciously) in a carafe, so that I didn't/couldn't check what it was, and they effectively accused me of lying when, on paying the bill, I pointed out that I had asked for something different. It'll be a long time before I return there.
The meal was OK but nothing special. Fortunately the company was excellent and more than made up for the rip-off. [09 Mar 2004 21:19:28]

Customers beware! Average food and overpriced wine only let down by the appallingly slow and surly service. Arrogance with excellence I can understand but with mediocrity like this...? They must rely on one-time passing trade because they can never attract repeaters. Find another Italian restaurant in Bristol - any other Italian restaurant in Bristol [28 Apr 2005 17:04:05]

Don't bother The main course and wine was delicious, but the service apart from one waitress was from surly, disinterested waiters. The mozzarella in our starter was off. If the service had been any good we might have mentioned this but were too terrified as to how such miserable people would react when the mere act of ordering caused them to roll their eyes at us. This was a very expensive meal - (for a 3 course meal with wine and tip for 2 people coming to just over £100) - and as such just absolutely inexcusable. [13 Aug 2006 15:26:41]

Excellent I have eaten at San Carlos in Bristol around 6 or 7 times over a period of 4 years. I have always found the service to be excellent and have always been well looked after. Yes it is expensive, but very exclusive and it has the best in terms of variety menu I have come across. [27 Apr 2007 10:52:13]

Would Recommend My husband and I visited San Carlos last night for the first time and had a wonderful meal.
The food was excellent and the waiters attentive and polite.
It was more expensive than some restaurants but if you are looking for something special - it was our wedding anniversary - then we thoroughly recommend it. [19 Oct 2007 09:48:55]
