Contemporary French Mediterranean. Beautiful Victorian house converted into a restuarant. Picturesque setting next to the River Cam and opposite the University boathouses. The double conservatory is bright and airy during the day and relaxing and romantic in the evenings. The maitre d'hotel is charming and the staff are warm and friendly.
The food is the best you will find in Cambridgeshire with three AA rosettes awarded in October 2002 to prove it. They were the finalists in the "AA wine list of the year" awards with an impressive bin collection of around 750.
With all this in mind the average bill is incredible resonable. Lunch is £18.00 for two courses and £24.00 for three. A Three course a la carte dinner is £42.00 [09 Jul 2003 07:34:51]

Good Food, Bad Staff. I've tried Midsummer House many times over the past few years and each time I've liked the food but disliked the way the staff have treated me. Went there again in early May 2007 and it was the same as always. From initial enquiries through to how they actually act in the restaurant, they are unhelpful, cold and patronising. They all seem to act like you should feel so very grateful to dine with them. It's a shame, as Daniel Clifford's food is good and that's the only thing that keeps me going back. The food is excellent, but still I'd say towards the bottom end of two Michelin star restaurants. Nothing stunning -- just reliably very good cooking. I just wish they'd get over their pretensions and let people enjoy the food and the experience. [13 May 2007 20:11:20]
