The Chequers Inn, Fowlmere Warm, cosy atmosphere. The restaurant is situated in an old coaching inn, about 6 miles to the south east of Cambridge City Centre.
Food is of high standards and the service friendly. [16 Dec 1999 09:26:23]

The Chequers Inn We had a meal for four and found the food to be of a high quality and prepared with care.
Service was friendly and efficient and there is a warm, cosy atmosphere in a medium sized room with oak beamed ceiling. [07 Dec 1999 16:05:41]

The Chequers Inn First visit fine - I was with my husband and we ate a la carte. Second visit with my daughter who's moving to Fowlmere and we asked for a bar/sandwich menu and were made to feel as if had crawled out from under a stone. We were directed to the pub 'next door' where we would be able to 'buy chips'. Needless to say we thought the service and ambience were lousy. [06 Apr 2002 11:28:10]

We had a meal for two and the food was excellent, cooked to how we asked. It was a great place to go for a relaxed quiet meal, and the old oak beamed ceiling and brass pots on the walls just gave it that extra touch. [20 May 2003 11:19:11]

Chequers, sitting on their laurels? I'm sure it's lovely food, but I had a pretty snotty reception on the phone when making a booking. It hardly creates a welcoming impression. Maybe it was a bad time... Maybe you don't need more customers?? [20 Aug 2004 12:40:49]

Good food but We had a lovely meal (a dinner for 12), but one snide remark on the way out killed it stone dead. Sorry, but never again. [12 May 2005 19:54:10]

Worth travelling for the food & the garden Apart from the fact that they wouldn't do chips for kids, the food was hugely assured and very impressive - would put many a London gastropub to shame. The kitchen is superbly well organised and the beer is well-kept.
Lovely ambience in the well-kept garden on a warm day, too - shame you have to go indoors and queue at the cramped bar to order food and drinks! Would benefit from improved service and better front-of-house organisation. [26 Aug 2005 14:44:20]
