A Traditional Inn Reborn On a recent visit to Hereford I found myself at the door of this inn in the rain. Entering to shelter i was astonished to find that it was no longer a cantonese resteraunt but had been restored to its status of one of the friendliest and most attractive inns in the area. painted in traditional colours and furnished with its original wooden furniture this three roomed inn boasts two log fires, two bars and a staff of cheerful and helpful people who obviously love the building and were only too happy to show me the 17th century wall paintings and panelling upstairs. The service was excellent, the menu an honest selection of traditional pub fare freshly prepared to order and beautifully presented. Our meals arrived promptly, were hot and of generous proportions, the Steak and Stout pie was delicious! The drinks offered were from a wide range - all of which i tried were of perfect taste and cleanliness and included a good range of nine draught beers and two ciders. The restrooms were spotless and smart and there was appropriate access for wheelchairs. The ambience of the bars was very cosy and relaxed. While we were there a selection of familiar, gentle music played in the background, and candles flickered on every table. I didn't realise that pubs like this still existed and will make the black lion my first stop when i return to hereford. [10 Jan 2005 19:05:52]
